The château
Built on a rocky promontory, the château overlooks the picturesque slate and tile rooftops of the town of Saint Aignan to the south and the Cher River valley to the north. Remaining vestiges of the original 11th century castle include a fortified tower and outer walls. The principal structure dates from the Renaissance and is distinguished by an elegant carved limestone facade, mullioned windows and steep peaked slate roofline. Saint Aignan is one of the rare châteaux to have remained in the same family across the generations throughout its history. |
